Sabrina Stefanovic ’26 is a rising freshman gearing up for her upper school experience at Prep. As a high schooler, she looks forward to “more independence, especially when picking classes. There are a lot more options and classes you can choose to your liking.” That isn’t to say that her middle school experience was prosaic, however. Sabrina noted the number of activities to participate in during her first three years at Prep. “Since any grade can be in them, you meet a lot of new people. And almost everyone can find something they like.”
Like every student, Sabrina has endured a challenging two years off-campus or in hybrid-schooling due to the pandemic. Her family weathered the unprecedented situation by taking a lot of walks. Also, “having dinner together was one of the main things we did to stay together.” As to her Prep friends, they kept in touch mostly through phone calls and would take advantage of the relative safety of being distanced outside. Like her family, she’d go on walks with friends or go to the park, especially with her friends living close by.
When Prep’s campus opened back up, Sabrina was excited to see everyone in person and “be around people” again. She even felt she grew a lot closer to some friends upon returning because of the way the hybrid classes were like “little pods” with the same few people in them. And she especially appreciated getting back to “normal activities like dance and chorus.”
Chorus and history have been Sabrina’s favorite middle school classes. She says chorus is “amazing” and has been a great opportunity to meet new people and perform, not only in-class but in concert. “There was lot of focus on culture and geography” back in her sixth-grade history class, and she also appreciated her eighth-grade American history studies, which taught her “a whole new perspective.”
Besides her classes, Sabrina, a proud Unicorn, loves the work she’s done with the Varsity Dance Team (aka the Diablas). “It’s a great environment, and most of my friends come from there.” She describes dance as “fun and beneficial,” and she also practices piano and singing lessons outside of her endeavors at Prep. Eventually, Sabrina would like to find a major in college related to her artistic pursuits of singing, dancing, and piano.
